About Us Bylaws Mentoring Fellow Spotlights Resources & Links

The American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology is pleased provide official candidates for board certification in Clinical Health Psychology. The mentoring program consists of board certified Academy fellows who have volunteered to assist candidates in preparing their work samples (or portfolio) and the oral examination.  A candidate is ready to be paired with a mentor  when their work samples (or portfolio)  and professional statement have been drafted are closer to being readied for submission.  This is the time when mentors can be most helpful in providing feedback on the written samples and anticipatory guidance about next steps in the process.  The program is completely optional and does not guarantee passing the written or oral examinations, but many candidates have found it to be quite helpful.  The good news is that there is no charge for mentoring, or any Academy service.

To request a mentor, please email the Academy president after you have your drafts completed. The president will then email mentors to check on their availability and typically you will be assigned a mentor within a week of your request. For general questions prior to requesting a mentor, please feel free to reach out to any of the Academy board members, who are happy to answer questions about the process. Additionally, you are encouraged to go to the Academy of Clinical Health Psychology YouTube website where you will find four brief YouTube videos featuring one of the Academy’s Past-Presidents, who provides a helpful initial orientation to practice sample selection and organization.  I hope you find this information helpful in getting you started in the next step of becoming board certified in clinical health psychology.  I strongly encourage you not to delay in preparing your written materials!  Please let me know if you have any further questions.  I look forward to hearing from you when you are ready to be assigned a mentor.
