The National Latina/o Psychological Association, American Board of Professional Psychology Foundation, and National Register of Integrated Behavioral Health Scholarship

 

Scholarship Description

This scholarship, funded by contributions from Cesar Gonzalez, PhD, ABPP, NLPA, ABPP-F and the National Register, provides recipients with $1,500 towards the completion of ABPP board certification. Two scholarships will be awarded each year. To be eligible, applicants must be graduate students or early career psychologists and must complete the board certification process within two years of receipt of the scholarship award. Applicants must be NLPA members, English/Spanish bilingual, and express an interest in working with Hispanic populations in an integrated health delivery setting. 
 
Eligibility Requirements

  • To be eligible, applicants must be graduate students or early career psychologists (i.e., within 10 years of receiving the doctoral degree) who are actively pursuing an ABPP diploma in any of the ABPP recognized specialty boards.
  • Applicants must be a member of NLPA.
  • Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to working with Latina/o communities, and a strong interest in working in a collaborative medical setting.
  • Applicants must be bilingual in Spanish/English.
  • Training and educational experiences must be consistent with eligibility standards for the board in which certification is sought. It is the applicant’s responsibility to demonstrate that she/he meets eligibility requirements for the board in which certification is sought.
 
Application Information

Applicants must submit:
  • ABPP Foundation Scholarship Application Coversheet
  • A letter of interest of no more than 300 words that reflects on the applicant’s personal or career experience and how it ties into their own personal mission and vision for working in Integrated Behavioral Health among Latina/os;
  • Documentation demonstrating eligibility to seek certification in the ABPP board of the applicant’s choosing, including characteristics of the applicant’s doctoral degree and clinical training;
  • A current curriculum vitae indicating experience in working with Latinas/os;
  • One letter of recommendation from a faculty or clinical supervisor that specifies the applicant’s desire to work with Latinas/os in a collaborative medical setting. 
  • A signed attestation that, if awarded the scholarship, all awarded funds will be expended for the purposes outlined. In particular, the applicant will agree that funds should be expended solely in pursuit of the ABPP diplomate in the board of her/his choosing. This includes items such as application fees, travel to and from an examination site, room and board at the location of the exam, and costs associated with assembling required materials.
