An early career psychologist is defined as being within 10 years after receipt of the doctoral degree.

The recipient of the award will receive a $1,000 award and be honored at the ABPP Convocation during the APA Annual Convention.

Eligibility Criteria
Nominees must have obtained their psychology doctoral degrees after 12/31/09.
Nominees must have ECP status as of April 15, 2019, and must be a current ABPP specialist.

Award Criteria
These awards are to be conferred upon psychologists who throughout their careers have demonstrated exceptional service to the field of psychology that merits special recognition. Such service may be in support of ABPP and/or other professional psychology organizations (e.g., Divisions of the American Psychological Association; state boards of psychology; specialty academies; local, state, regional, or national psychology organizations; psychology journal editorial boards; psychology consumer groups, etc.).  Service contributions may occur in a variety of ways, including leadership positions, committee membership, or ad hoc volunteer activities.   Service contributions should be beyond the requirements inherent in the psychologist’s employment responsibilities (e.g., service on University committees; activities for work groups internal to the employment setting, etc.).

Nominations must be accompanied by a letter of nomination/recommendation detailing the nominee’s service contributions in the field of psychology, the nominee’s Vita, and a minimum of one additional letter of recommendation. Self-nominations are acceptable and must include a letter of self-nomination from the psychologist, a copy of the Vita, and two letters of recommendation.  All letters must be signed and must be from psychologists familiar with the nominee’s service contributions.
