Joette James, PhD, ABPP

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Joette James, PhD, ABPP in Clinical Neuropsychology. She received her PhD from Northwestern University in 2003. She was a member of the clinical faculty at Children’s National Medical Center for 7 years, with a joint Assistant Professor position at George Washington University. In 2014, she moved to having an independent clinical and forensic practice (Alina Assessment Services, PLLC). She was serving on the DC Board of Psychology at the time of her passing.

Dr. James’s passion for learning and teaching was inspirational. In addition to her work as a neuropsychologist, serving people of all ages with learning and developmental disorders and disabilities, she recently earned a master’s degree in art history from Lindenwood University. Joette went all in on all that she did. She was the board president of Hamiltonian Artists and was passionate in her love of the arts, never losing the ability to marvel and wonder. She joined the Hamiltonian Artists board of directors in early 2020, jumping right in as Vice President. She gave generously of her time, brilliance, and enthusiasm for art and artists, especially those connected to the DC area.

We will miss her compassion, enthusiasm, love of art, coffee, and cocktails, her laugh, and thoughtfulness, among so many other exceptional ways of being. She will be missed by all those whose lives she touched, and there are many. Our community mourns this deep loss.
