Presentation Summary:

This webinar will focus on psychology ethics. We will explore the foundation of moral reasoning that underscores the APA’s Ethics Code and the central three normative ethics frameworks (e.g., teleological, deontological, and virtue). Common decision hazards that negatively impact ethical decision-making will also be presented (Haidt, 2012; Kahneman et al., 2021; Lefkowitz, 2023). Participants will be exposed to projected revisions of the APA Ethics Code (APA, 2024) as well as the current Code (APA, 2017). An ethical decision-making framework that incorporates normative models and decision-making hazards will also be presented and discussed. Participants will be presented with various ethical dilemmas that span the current APA Ethics Code Standards.

Learning Objectives:

1. Identify proposed changes in the APA’s Ethics Code based on draft revisions to the Code.

2. Describe normative ethical models as applied to ethical decision-making in psychology.

3. Discuss the application of nonrational processes, noise, and bias to ethical decision-making.
