The Distinguished Service to the Profession of Psychology Award honors a Certified Specialist whose career represents outstanding contributions to psychology by way of research, professional publications, policy development and implementation, teaching, training, or advocacy for the profession.
ABPP is pleased to announce the 2025 award recipient:
Jared L. Skillings, PhD, ABPP
Jared L. Skillings, PhD, ABPP is a licensed psychologist in Virginia and Michigan and is triple board certified by the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). In 2024 he completed his work as the Chief Clinical Officer for the American Psychological Association (APA), where he led the national strategies for psychology’s 120,000-person workforce. Examples of the robust success include: growing the workforce by 7,000+ practitioners per year, creating clinical and regulatory access to telehealth, facilitating nationwide access to digital therapeutics, and achieving the largest-ever market value increases for psychological services.
As an advisor to the White House, Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), Dr. Skillings has contributed psychological expertise to solving some of society’s most pressing needs. He amassed over 2 billion media impressions through interviews with the NY Times, CNN, FOX, USA Today, NPR, and others, and has provided over 100 testimonies and advocacy letters to federal and state legislative, regulatory, and judicial authorities.
Dr. Skillings has served on 3 nonprofit Boards of Directors and 2 National Advisory Boards, including the ABPP Board of Trustees in 2017-2018. He served as President of the American Academy of Clinical Health Psychology from 2010-2014, facilitating a 33% increase in board-certified health psychologists.
On a personal note, Dr. Skillings has been married to his wonderful wife, Julie, for 24 years. Their five adopted children bring joy to their life. The family practices Brazilian jiu-jitsu together, and Dr. Skillings earned a blue belt in 2024.
