Clinical Psychology Board & Academy

Awardee: Karen Farrell, PsyD, ABPP

We would like to honor Karen Farrell with the service to ABCP Award for her extensive service as Midwestern Regional Director and as our representative to Clinical Psychology Specialty Council, serving as president of this organization during the time of the specialty renewal petition and leading our specialty to a greater sense of connection.

Clinical Neuropsychology Board & Academy

Awardee: Joseph Kulas, PhD, ABPP

Dr. Kulas served energetically on the Board of Directors for the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN) and as an ABCN oral examiner. Even more noteworthy is his longstanding dedication to the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology Foundation (AACNF). As leader of the AACNF, he has spearheaded charitable efforts totaling a quarter-million dollars that have been applied to annual grants for research that documents the efficacy, effectiveness, and impact of clinical neuropsychological care. His energy, creativity, and steadfast service have been truly outstanding.

Forensic Psychology Board & Academy

Awardee: James N. Bow, PhD, ABPP

Dr. James Bow was selected as the ABFP/AAFP Award recipient because of his long-time service to the ABFP Board, his work with ABPP as the ABFP BOT Representative, and his commitment to the Academy mission.

Geropsychology Board

Awardee: Michele Karel, Ph.D., ABPP

Since 2016 Michele Karel has offered a free weekly small group consultation for VA psychologists in support of their pursuit of board certification. These psychologists are working in geriatric care settings but often had no prior supervised training in geropsychology. This work has allowed at least 10 geropsychologists to become board-certified who would not otherwise be able to do so. Additionally, Dr. Karel has a long and distinguished career in the field of geropsychology, with significant contributions to the development of assessment measures used as the basis for training and examining specialists to ABGERO.

Organizational & Business Consulting Psychology Board

Awardee: Jessica Parker, PsyD, ABPP

Dr. Parker stepped down as President of OBCP at the end of 2022, having led the Specialty Board with distinction and grace as OBCP fine-tuned its processes and practices. Dr. Parker’s leadership was instrumental as OBCP revised its manuals and successfully completed the PCR process. In her role, she was a tireless champion and advocate on behalf of OBCP. Her efforts yielded demonstrable results, including a marked increase in applications for OBCP and in the number of individuals who successfully achieved that designation.

Psychoanalysis in Psychology Board

Awardees: John Watkins, PhD, ABPP and Theodore Ellenhorn, PhD, ABPP

Dr. Watkins was primarily responsible for the development of the new specialty in Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychology. He engineered the project from the beginning by soliciting membership of Div 39 for their interest. He was the primary author of both the application and examination manuals, and his presentations to CoS, CRSSPP, and the BOT of ABPP were instrumental in the approval of the new specialty.

Dr. Ellenhorn was instrumental in establishing the newly approved specialty in Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic Psychology. He contributed hundreds of hours to writing both the application and examination manuals. As part of his investigations into the need for the new specialty, he developed a searchable database of over 1,000 publications affirming the evidence based efficacy of psychoanalytic and or psychodynamic psychotherapy.
