Readers asked:
Is there an ABPP policy about the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the application process for specialty certification?
ABPP’s Artificial Intelligence Taskforce (AITF) responded:
Currently there is not a uniform policy across ABPP about utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) related to seeking specialty board certification.
Two of our specialty boards have proactively addressed the use of Artificial Intelligence in the specialty certification application process. Applicants and candidates for the American Board of Rehabilitation Psychology (ABRP) and the American Board of Clinical Neuropsychology (ABCN) may find guidance in their respective Examination Manuals regarding the responsible use of AI. Additionally, these models may serve as valuable references for specialty boards when revising Examination Manuals or considering AI-related issues in evaluating specialty certification candidates.
ABPP’s Artificial Intelligence Taskforce (AITF) is available for consultation. If we can assist in addressing issues regarding AI, please contact Dr. Jeni McCutcheon at jenimccutcheon@aol.com.
Check out the AITF’s website for resources for navigating AI in professional psychology, including a recommended reading list and ethical guidance for the responsible use of AI.
