Welcome to the American Board of Psychopharmacological Psychology (ABRxP). Whether you are a psychologist interested in pursuing board certification, a member of the public seeking a qualified specialist, or someone interested in learning more about psychopharmacological psychology and prescriptive authority for psychologists, we hope you will find the information and resources you need here.
Founded in 2025, ABRxP was established to advance excellence in the specialty practice of psychopharmacological psychology. ABRxP is currently provisionally affiliated with the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP), an important step in the continued development and recognition of the specialty within professional psychology.
Psychopharmacological psychology integrates the science and practice of psychology with advanced education and training in neuroscience, medicine, and clinical psychopharmacology. The specialty provides the professional foundation for psychologists who incorporate psychopharmacology into their practice and is particularly relevant to prescribing/medical psychologists—licensed psychologists who have completed additional education, supervised clinical training, and jurisdiction-specific requirements to obtain prescriptive authority.
The mission of ABRxP is to develop and maintain a rigorous peer-review and examination process that evaluates the advanced education, training, experience, and competencies required for specialty practice in psychopharmacological psychology. ABRxP board certification recognizes advanced specialty competence; it does not itself confer prescriptive authority, which is granted by individual licensing jurisdictions.
On behalf of the ABRxP Board of Directors, we welcome you to explore our website, learn more about psychopharmacological psychology and board certification, and join us in advancing the continued development of this growing specialty within professional psychology.
Best regards,
