Welcome and thank you for your interest in the American Board of School Psychology (ABSP). Whether you are exploring board certification for the first time, actively pursuing the process, or already a board-certified specialist, we are pleased to have you as a part of our community.
Board certification through ABSP represents a commitment to advanced competence in school psychology that extends beyond licensure. It reflects not only the knowledge and skills required for the sub-specialty of school psychology, but also a dedication to the highest standards of professional practice, ethical decision-making, and service to the individuals and communities we serve. School psychologists serve in diverse roles through providing assessment, intervention, and consultation in a variety of environments. Board certification in school psychology recognizes psychologists who demonstrate advanced competency and contribute meaningfully to the evolving landscape of education and mental health.
Whether you are an early career psychologist, an experienced practitioner, or considering the next steps in your professional journey, we encourage you to explore board certification in school psychology. ABSP has made the manual and other informational resources available on the website. We are here to support welcome you to reach out to board members if you have additional questions. ABSP prides itself on a certification process that is rigorous yet fair and collegial that evaluates the advanced competency of candidates, while providing a supportive and encouraging process through mentorship. We encourage applicants to take advantage of the support offered by our board-certified specialists.
We also invite those already board certified to remain actively engaged with ABSP. Serving as a mentor, examiner, or committee member is a great way to support the next generation of specialists that help shape the future of the profession while actively contributing to the continued growth and future of ABSP and its mission. ABSP encourages you to reach out to the ABSP executive team to speak about the various opportunities to become involved with the board.
