Welcome Letter from the Specialty Board President

Omar G. Gudiño, PhD, ABPP

Welcome to the website for the American Board of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology (ABCCAP). This website is designed for students-in-training, early career psychologists, psychologists with extensive experience, and the public. Whether you are considering attaining board certification or are seeking a board-certified clinical child and adolescent psychologist to provide service for your family, we hope this website meets your needs.

The ABCCAP is a specialty board of the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP). Successful completion of the board certification process is a strong statement of a psychologist’s competence in their area of specialization. Board certification in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology focuses on verification of education, training, and experience in the specialty as well as demonstration of the foundational and functional competencies of the specialty.

If you are a psychologist interested in board certification in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, there are two pathways to demonstrate specialty education, training, and experience. One is for early and mid-career psychologists (Regular), one is for those who have been licensed 15 years or longer (Senior). Our board is committed to a positive and professional application and examination process. If you decide to pursue board certification, you may request a mentor to assist you through the process.

If you are involved in educating and training psychology students in a pre-doctoral, internship or postdoctoral clinical child and adolescent psychology setting, we invite you to consider ABCCAP board certification as a demonstration of your competence and as a model of professional development. We also encourage you to enlist your students in the ABPP Early Entry Program.

If you are a pre-licensure individual (student or recent graduate) of a clinical child and adolescent psychology training program, we encourage you to start the process of progression toward board certification through ABPP at a reduced fee. See information on the ABPP Early Entry Program and start the process now. If you are a family member seeking professional services, please review the list of board-certified clinical child and adolescent psychologists in your area by searching on our online Directory.

We appreciate your interest in board certification in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology. Please contact us from the Specialty Board Officers page, if you have any questions or concerns about the process. We are happy to respond to your inquiries.

Best regards,
